Tri Fold Brochure Printing
The tri fold brochure is the brochure most people picture when they hear the word. One A4 sheet, printed in full colour on both sides, folded twice into a slim DL piece. That gives you six panels that read in a set order: a cover, a back, and four inside panels for your story.
It fits a DL envelope, a brochure rack, a counter stand and a letterbox. It is the format for price lists, service menus, tour and event guides, real estate hand-outs, clinic and salon information, and any pitch that has to be carried away and read later.
Two folds, same price
- Roll fold (the classic tri fold). The right panel folds in first, then the left panel folds over it. The panels nest inside each other, so the reader opens it like a book. This is the standard brochure fold.
- Z fold. The sheet folds into a zig zag, so all three panels open flat in one pull. It suits maps, timelines, step by step guides and anything read as one wide spread.
Both folds are made from the same A4 sheet and cost the same. Pick the one that suits how your content reads.
Four stocks
- Gloss 150gsm. The standard brochure paper. Bright colour, sharp photos, the keenest price. Right for most jobs.
- Gloss 170gsm. A little heavier in the hand. Choose it when the brochure has to feel more substantial.
- Matt 170gsm. The same weight with a soft, non reflective finish. Easier to read under bright lights and the more premium look.
- Uncoated 100gsm. Light, natural and writeable. Right for order forms, tear off reply panels and a plain paper look.

Artwork Guidelines
Artwork Guidelines for Tri Fold Brochures
Set up at the flat A4 size. Build your artwork as a two page PDF at 297 x 210mm landscape. Page 1 is the outside of the brochure and page 2 is the inside.
- Supply print-ready PDF artwork at 300dpi in CMYK. We convert anything in RGB, which can shift colour.
- Add 3mm bleed on all sides and keep important text and logos at least 5mm inside the trim.
- Roll fold panel widths matter. The panel that folds in first has to be slightly narrower or it jams. Set the panels to 98mm, 99mm and 100mm, with the narrow 98mm panel being the one that folds inside. Our printer will also accept 99/99/99mm or 97/100/100mm. Any other split will be sent back for correction before printing.
- Z fold panels are equal. Three panels of 99mm each.
- Keep text and logos at least 5mm clear of each fold line. Let background images and colour run straight across the folds.
- Remember the panel order. On a roll fold, the outside page reads from left to right as inside flap, back cover, front cover. It catches people out on every first brochure, so ask us for a template if you are unsure.
- Design the front panel to work alone. It is the only panel people see in a rack.
- If you want a QR code, make it at least 25mm square and test the printed proof with a phone before you approve it.
- On the uncoated stock, colours print slightly softer and flatter than on gloss. It suits a natural look rather than punchy product photography.
Not sure your file is right? Send it through anyway. We check every file before it goes near a press and come back to you if something needs fixing.
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a tri fold brochure?
An A4 sheet printed on both sides and folded twice into a DL sized piece. The two folds turn one sheet into six panels: a front cover, a back cover and four inside panels. It is also called a roll fold, a 6pp DL brochure or a pamphlet. Same thing.
Roll fold or Z fold, which should I pick?
Roll fold is the standard tri fold. The panels nest inside each other and the reader opens it like a book, one panel at a time, which suits content told in steps. Z fold opens flat in one pull so all three inside panels show at once, which suits maps, timetables and anything designed as one wide picture. Both cost the same.
Tri fold or half fold?
Tri fold folds to a slim DL panel that suits racks, counters, DL envelopes and letterboxes, with six smaller panels that guide the reader in order. Half fold gives four bigger pages that read like a booklet and suit menus, programs and photography. If your content is a list or a story told in steps, tri fold. If it needs room to breathe, half fold.
Which stock should I choose?
Gloss 150gsm is the standard brochure stock, bright colour at the sharpest price. Go 170gsm gloss or matt when you want it to feel more substantial, and matt when it will be read under bright lights or you want a more premium look. The 100gsm uncoated stock is light and writeable, right for order forms and reply panels.
Are both sides printed?
Yes, always. Every tri fold brochure is printed in full colour on both sides of the sheet, so all six panels carry print.
Is there a size other than A4 folded to DL?
Not on this page. A4 folded to DL is the standard tri fold and the one nearly everyone orders. If you need an A3 sheet folded to A4, a gate fold or a custom size, send the details through the Custom Quote tab and we will price it.
How much do tri fold brochures cost?
Prices are shown live on this page, ex GST, for every fold, stock and quantity, and they include delivery anywhere in Australia. Choose your options above to see the price. Larger quantities bring the unit price down sharply.
How fast will I get them?
Printing and folding takes approximately 3 to 4 working days after your artwork is approved and paid, and we confirm the dispatch date when you order. Delivery time after dispatch depends on the courier and your location, so please allow for that on a deadline job and tell us the date you are working to.
Can I upload my own artwork?
Yes. Upload a print-ready PDF when you order, or send it after. Set it up at the flat A4 size with the panel widths in the artwork guidelines tab. We check every file and send you a digital proof before printing. You get 2 free proofs.
Do you design them?
Yes. If you do not have print-ready artwork we can design the brochure for you. Send us your logo, your content and any photos through the Custom Quote tab and we will quote the design work with the print.
