Put your message where the decision gets made. Strut cards from Space Print are printed in full colour on artboard, laminated, then mounted to rigid 1.5mm screen board with a fold-out cardboard strut on the back. They pop open in a second and stand on their own, so a counter, a reception desk, a shelf or a trade show table becomes advertising space.
No stands to buy, no frames, no assembly. The strut is part of the card, folded flat for delivery and locked open in one movement when it arrives.
Where strut cards work
- Retail counters. Promotions, price points, payment notices and new arrivals, right at the till.
- Cafes, bars and restaurants. Specials, menus, QR codes for ordering and reviews.
- Reception desks. Opening hours, services, current offers, wifi details.
- Trade shows and events. Table signs, price lists, welcome cards, session running sheets.
- Salons, clinics and gyms. Treatment menus, membership offers, product cards beside the retail shelf.
- Real estate and open homes. Property boards, agent details, feature callouts.
Why our strut cards
- Rigid, not floppy. The printed sheet is mounted to 1.5mm screen board, so the card holds its shape instead of curling over by the second week.
- Laminated as standard. Every card gets a gloss or matt laminate, which is what survives being handled, wiped down and knocked about on a busy counter.
- Four sizes. A6 for a small counter note through to A3 when the card has to be seen across the room.
- Premium finishes if you want them. Scodix raised gloss and gold or silver metallic add a genuine 3D embellishment to the areas you choose, the same Scodix process we run on our Scodix business cards.
- From 10. Most trade printers start at 50. If you need ten cards for ten counters, that is the order you can place.
Portrait or landscape
Every size can be produced portrait or landscape at no extra cost. Just set your artwork up the way you want the card to stand and tell us in the order notes.
Printed one side
Strut cards are printed on the front. The back is the plain white screen board that carries the strut, which is what makes the card rigid and free-standing. If you need print on both sides, send us the details through our contact page and we will quote it.
All prices are ex GST and include free delivery anywhere in Australia. Every order includes 2 free proofs, and nothing goes to print until you approve them.
Artwork Guidelines
Artwork Guidelines for Strut Cards
Set up at the finished size. Strut cards are trimmed to standard A sizes, so build your artwork at A6 105 x 148mm, A5 148 x 210mm, A4 210 x 297mm or A3 297 x 420mm, in the orientation you want the card to stand.
- Supply print-ready PDF artwork at 300dpi in CMYK. We convert anything in RGB, which can shift colour.
- Add 3mm bleed on all sides and keep important text and logos at least 5mm inside the trim.
- Artwork is for the front only. The back is plain white board with the strut, so do not supply a reverse.
- The card is read from a distance, usually across a counter. Keep to one clear message, large type and plenty of contrast rather than a page of copy.
- Leave the bottom 15mm reasonably clear of critical detail. The card sits at a slight lean and the bottom edge is the part most likely to be blocked by whatever is on the counter.
- Scodix and metallic finishes need a separate spot layer. Supply a second PDF page or a spot colour named layer marking exactly which areas get the raised gloss or metal. Keep it to logos, headings or graphic shapes. Fine text under 8pt and thin hairlines do not hold the effect.
- Solid dark backgrounds show fingerprints and handling marks more than lighter ones. Matt laminate hides them better than gloss.
- If you want a QR code on the card, make it at least 25mm square and test the printed proof with a phone before you approve it.
Not sure your file is right? Send it through anyway. We check every file before it goes near a press and come back to you if something needs fixing.
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the strut work?
The strut is a cardboard leg attached to the back of the card. It ships folded flat against the board, and you fold it out and click the tab into the slot to lock it open. The card then leans back at a stable angle and stands on its own. No stand, frame or easel needed.
How rigid are they?
Rigid. The printed sheet is mounted to 1.5mm screen board, the same rigid backing used for point of sale counter cards. It is a solid, self-supporting panel, not a folded card, so it will not curl or flop over after a week on a counter.
Can I have them printed both sides?
Not as a standard order. The back of a strut card is the plain white screen board that carries the strut. If you need something printed on the reverse, or a double sided card that stands, contact us and we will quote it as a custom job.
Portrait or landscape?
Either, at the same price. Set your artwork up in the orientation you want and note it on the order. If you do not tell us, we produce it in the orientation your artwork is supplied in.
Which size should I choose?
A6 and A5 are the counter sizes, read from arm’s length at a till, a table or a reception desk. A5 is the most popular. A4 works on a bench or a shelf where you want it noticed from a few metres away. A3 is close to a small poster and is best for a display table, a foyer or an event.
What is the difference between gloss, matt, Scodix and metallic?
Gloss laminate is the brightest and most scuff-resistant, and it makes photography and colour pop. Matt laminate is a softer, non-reflective, premium look and hides fingerprints better. Scodix is a raised gloss layer applied over the matt laminate, so chosen areas sit up off the card with a clear 3D gloss. Silver and gold metallic are the same raised process in a metal finish, which reads as a rich foil effect without the cost of a foil die.
How fast can I get them?
Gloss and matt strut cards in quantities under 200 run on a weekly production schedule and dispatch every Friday. If your artwork is approved and paid by 5pm Monday it makes that Friday’s run, otherwise it goes on the following Friday. Orders of 200, and all Scodix and metallic finishes, run off that weekly schedule and take a few days longer, and we confirm the dispatch date with you when you order. Delivery time after dispatch depends on the courier and your location.
Can I order fewer than 10?
10 is the minimum for a production run. If you only need one or two, contact us and we will look at whether a mounted poster or a foam board sign makes more sense for that quantity.
Do you design them?
Yes. If you do not have print-ready artwork we can design the card for you. Send us your logo, your message and any photos through our contact page and we will quote the design work with the print.
